THE GIRL HE KNOWS by Kristi Rose | Lyrical Press | August 18, 2025
Waking up naked next to a good looking man is not a bad way to start the day. Especially since Paisley missed all those opportunities in college, when she was too busy supporting her no good, thankfully now, ex-husband. The problem? This hottie is Hank, her best friend’s older brother, a guy she’s known her entire life.
Stopping after one night is the right thing to do. Being with him clearly breaks the best friend code, and from his career as a Naval officer to his Boy Scout reputation, everything about him screams monogamy and commitment. Two things Paisley has had enough of.
When Hank presents a “no strings attached” offer, it’s too good to be true. She can enjoy him while still embracing being single. But, poor choices force her to confront old fears of love and loss, and Paisley has to decide if Hank is worth the risk. The alternative is never experiencing the real deal. Or far worse, settling for less

INTERVIEW
What’s something that you always hope will come up in conversation, but rarely get the chance to talk about?
This is a hard question! Maybe the need for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Fanfiction? Or how women don’t buy the proper sized bras and to do so would CHANGE your life. Or Maybe my girl crush on Katy Perry.
What surprised you the most about writing The Girl He Knows?
How hard it was and how easy it was. The story just came out of me. But making it cohesive and in line with what I envisioned was crazy hard, frustrating, and some days-demoralizing.
Any scenes you’re most excited for readers to discover?
I love any scene with Paisley and Hank and the scene at the ‘fun party”. I hope people like those, too
What is a book that has inspired you this year?
I am Messenger by Markus Susa. I’m late to reading this but I LOVED it and Jojo Moyes- Me before you. I did the ugly cry.
Where do you write? (I’d love it if you shared a picture!) Any special writing routines?
I work part time, have a young family, and a crazy bust spouse so I have to be hard core about my writing and make time in my schedule and I don’t blow it off to shop (though sometimes I want to because writing can be hard).
If I have a good amount of time (more than 3 hours)- I’ll write at home but that’s a rarity. Therefore, I write at coffee shops mostly or my favorite sandwich shop. I live in an area that has copious amounts of coffee shops so I rotate around depending on the climate and my mood.
This is what it looks like:
Writing with critique partners at Coffee shop (One guess at the name of the shop- I’m sure you’ll get it right)
At favorite Sandwich shop-hogging two tables
What is the most interesting Google search you’ve had to do while writing?
I wish I had something really cool and out there- that probably is an indication of how lame I am. Recently, I was looking up idiosyncratic behaviors of schizophrenics. That was an eye -opening (and heartbreaking) search.
Thank you to Kristi Rose for sharing today!
