I’m newly obsessed with Polyvore, but making outfits that I can never afford is depressing, so I’ve taken to making looks inspired by books. These aren’t meant to be replicas of what the characters wear in the books, but rather looks inspired by the characters.
I read (and loved) Cinder by Marissa Meyer this week. My review is coming soon, but in the mean time, I played around on polyvore with those characters in mind. Here is what I came up with.
Inspired by Cinder’s work clothes as a mechanic. I’m not totally happy with this one, but I LOVE the gloves. Probably not Cinder’s style, but they are beautiful. The cargo pants are a bit more feminine than I think Cinder would wear, but I love that it has a pocket on the calf and a normal person not trying to hide robot legs would actually wear these.
Inspired by the dress Cinder wears to the ball. If you’ve read the book, you’ll understand why the gloves are necessary and also why there is an umbrella. I realize that in the book her dress is silver with hints of purple, but all of the silver dresses were boring so I went with some color.
Are you guys on Polyvore, yet? What do you think?

I do not know what Polyvore is, but I think I’ve seen some pictures like this on Pinterest. I don’t have much fashion-sense for myself, so I’m not sure how much I’d enjoy the site. Although you have got it DOWN! These are all so perfect!!!! Love the gloves, the accessories for the ball outfit, and Sybil Mira’s outfit is perfection! And I could totally see Cinder in that entire first outfit! Perhaps you’ve missed your calling? You should be a costume designer for movies!!!! And I totally think you should continue this theme on your blog and do this for lots of other books! It’s very different and totally cool! Okay, I’ll stop with the gushing and exclamation points now.

Love the outfits you created. Those Wing Hing Sandals…*sign* I love them. I want them in black.
I’ve “played” with polyvore once before and it was fun. But I agree, it can be pretty depressing seeing all those gorgeous clothes and not being able to really get them.

These are so perfect! I can totally see the characters wearing these outfits. I like the color change you made with the dress, too.

I’m not on Polyvore and I actually don’t know what it is…I might have to look into that later. I love the green jacket in the first collection! I LOVE everything in the second collection! Especially the parasol and the boots! And I love the jewelry in the last collection!
Now that I have today and tomorrow off I’m finally going to get to finish Cinder!

Wow! You did a seriously amazing job putting these outfits together! I read Cinder recently and I can totally see the characters dressed this way. I would have loved to see what you could come up with for the Lunar Queen. But Sybli’s outfit is gorgeous! I’m looking forward to seeing more of your Looks From Books! *New Follower*
