Top Ten (Tuesday) Settings I’d Like To See More Of

22 January 2026 By fakesteph 11 Comments

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish that combines lists and books. This weeks topic is… top ten settings I’d like to see more of. There may or may not be ten places on this list. (There won’t be.)

SPECIALIZED SCHOOLS - Okay, who doesn’t want to be a Gallagher Girl? I love boarding school books that have that something extra.

ONE LOCATION - Like a plane or an elevator. I think one location is impossibly hard to pull off and I just want to be impressed by a skilled writer. Feel free to take this as a challenge or leave recommendations in the comments.

THE COURTROOM - Are there YA Legal Thrillers? Because that would totally be up my ally. These two are close… but not quite:

THE OTHER COURT - Because I love the intrigue.

A COFFEE SHOP - I should also specify that I’d really like Jennifer E. Smith to write said book that is set in a coffee shop.

A TREE HOUSE - Because I’m kind of obsessed.

EGYPT - Because it’s a fascinating place that I know nothing about.

AN ART MUSEUM - Even though it will never be as good as my favorite book from childhood:

1920’s NEW YORK - Because I was born in the wrong decade.

My list is way longer than I expected. Also…you should totally leave links to tree house pictures in the comments.

I never would have thought of a book being set in a tree house - what a great idea! And I totally agree with you on the specialized schools, as those book types are always a lot of fun to read! Great list!

Does this count as a tree house?

Also, YES to the YA legal thrillers. I’d even take a New Adult legal thriller, set in law school or something. Fantastic idea

I’d totally love a book that takes place in one place. It would be a challenge to write but fun to read.

I love specialized schools too!!! I have a student who is reading the Gallagher Girl books right now and loving them, so between the both of you raving about them, I clearly need to check them out.

I’m totally down with Jennifer E. Smith writing a coffee shop book! She could pull it off. I want more books where people meet by chance and fall in love (perhaps because I dream of that happening to myself…)

And I freaking LOVE Mixed Up Files! It’s in my top five fav books ever. I loved that book as a kid. I thought it was genius that they bathed in a fountain and used the change.

    Great list!

Great list! And yes, I’m all about specialized schools! And I love books all set in one place. Hmmm, might need to think about that for my next WIP!
